The problem that I have with You're the One is that I cannot take it seriously. I keep imagining Kate, as she is singing, starting out the door. She's just about out, then suddenly, unexpectedly steps back inside, and sings another few lines. This sequence seems to repeat itself throughout the song, and soon becomes tiresome. I find the song, not moving or dramatic, but overly melodramatic. And by adding the Hammond and the Trio into the mix, it gets pushed over the top. Too, there is that silly little taunt after the first chorus: "It's alright I know where I'm going I'm going to stay with my friend Mmm, yes, he is very good looking..." and I've never found the "Bullshit" quote in TSOS as strange, jarring, and out of character as Kate saying: "Let's danger it up" And finally, back to repetitious melodrama, we have "Just forget it alright" followed by, pleading "Sugar?...Honey?..." Kate, he may be the only one that you want, but if you're going to go... Then go!! John H. (Who will one day be in the poorhouse, but will at least have a shitload of good music to listen to. If he still has a CD player....)
