i've been reading .gaffa for about a month now, and am really
impressed with the postings, wealth of knowledge, etc.  but
i'm just a wee bit confused about two things:

   * WHY is kate's name always spelled KaTe?
   * who/what is IED?

i'm sure i'm not the only one that's missing out on these
little things, so could somebody please post the answers?
