Well, Bob, music in the bay Area is not as dismal as you lay it out to
be. True, there is an over-abundance of crud, but there is actually
some good radio (KFJC, KALX, KZSU on ocxcasion, KUSF ... admitedly all
college stations, but where are there any good commercial stations
these days ... maybe NYC, but ...)

BTW: you missed a lot of fun at Castro last night in SF ... when I
think of Hallowe'en, I don't think of finding good music, and besides,
I caught Hu:sker Du: the night before...

Re: Joe Jackson ... yep, he definately belongs in that category of
artists who have enough freedom to do what they want and change styles
frequently, almost on a whim... People like him and others like Elvis
Costello and David Byrne make a lot of new *interesting* stuff, that
others are either too scared or stupid to do. Sure, it's not *all*
great, (for instance, his score to Mike's murder was trash and Jumpin
Jive was a poor treatment of some fine music), but it keeps the
creative juices going. His treatment of Ska (Beat Crazy, for those who
missed it) was almost completely overlooked during the
two-tone-craze...
