From: kuy@acs.ryerson.ca (Kenly Uy - MHNG/W94) asks: >What exactly is gaffa music? And, can anyone please fill me in on the >history of this type of music? Please email me if possible. Ooh, I like this one. Not "What is Gaffa" or even "Who is Kate Bush" - two good, if minimizing, questions. What is Gaffa Music. God, that opens up a whole catherdal of possibilities! OK, picture if you will, a cross between Peter Gabriel, Tori Amos, Jane Siberry, and Sarah McLachlan. Now throw in Bulgarian folk music. Add a LOT of Irish and English folk music. Put in Australian Aborigine sounds. Gently fold in some Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, and Steeleye Span. Add heavy influences of James Joyce, the Bronte sisters, and a dash of Stephen King. Put in as many random native (preferably non-Western) instruments as you can. Finally, add a lot of references to old films, especially old Hitchcock thrillers. Remember to try to keep everything mellow. Are you picturing that? OK, now record it, edit it down to three minutes and fifty seconds. Now play it BACKWARDS. THAT'S pretty much what Gaffa Music sounds like. - Stev0 the Precise "I canna break the laws of physics!" - the engineer for The Dreaming
