In article <9602010729.AA00632@maui.theoinf.tu-ilmenau.de> Rolf.Peukert@Theoinf.TU-Ilmenau.DE (Rolf Peukert) writes: Rolf.Peukert> Now it got worse, it got much worse, cause when poor Rolf.Peukert> Kate had to do her song in front of her future king, she Rolf.Peukert> went out on stage to begin singing, and the top of her Rolf.Peukert> dress split open and came on down. And she had to run Rolf.Peukert> off stage into the wings [??], with her dress falling Rolf.Peukert> down, which is kind of embarrassing for a girl - [funny Rolf.Peukert> voice:] even more embarrassing for a boy. I think from Ian's later comments we can safely say his memory is not to be trusted. The Garden (a much more reliable source) says: 57. The Wedding List: sung live during the The Prince's Trust Gala, staged July 21, 1982; from the home video. This is an interesting performance, in that Kate is backed by an all-star band: Phil Collins on drums, Gary Brooker on keyboards, Midge Ure and Peter Townsend on guitars and backing vocals, and Mick Karn on fretless bass. Kate's movements are severely limited by the necessity of holding the microphone in one hand; and during her performance the strap of her top breaks--a minor emergency which she covers with admirable professionalism, never missing a beat. I've seen the video; both straps break, but Kate manages to hold her dress up with one hand, without missing a beat or adding a quaver--really very impressively composed. She did not run off the stage in the middle of the song (or even after). Rolf.Peukert> So I happened to be standing there, ready for anything, Rolf.Peukert> and I saved Kate, because I had a piece of a tape that Rolf.Peukert> we always use for fixing anything on stage in music Rolf.Peukert> business, and I managed to fix her dress with a piece of Rolf.Peukert> black sticky tape, and sent her back on stage to finish Rolf.Peukert> the song. I suspect this is just wishful thinking on Mr. Anderson's part. -- Dan Riley Internet: dsr@lns598.lns.cornell.edu Wilson Lab, Cornell University HEPNET/SPAN: lns598::dsr (44630::dsr) "Distance means nothing/To me." -Kate Bush
