Sadly (and literally) Kate is a foreign phenomena here in the states.
Although I do believe she was nominated once (video for RUTH?), she
just isn't well-known (or even known) enough here to cop an award that
takes popularity into consideration. American tastes seem to be less
forgiving to the whimsical or overly-artistic, two categories into
which Kate fits squarely. You mention Tina Turner and Whitney Houston.
Throw in a dash of Bonnie Raitt, Pat Benatar and Sheryl Crow, and you
have covered our mainstream Grammy female winners for almost fifteen
years.
