I think that a lot of people only know Zappa for writing about risque
subjects, and this can get blown way out of proportion when considering
his total body of work.  Most of his catalogue consists of instrumental
music (usually complex and often beautiful).  Also the song topics cover
a colossal scope from muffins to religion via UFOS and (yes indeed)
sexual encounters.  The lyrics range from surreal to satirical
commentaries on the real-world.
I can see some similarities between Kate's music and Frank's (well I
love them both), but a caution to any Lovehound who wanted to "stray"
into Zappa's vast soundscape would be that Zappa-music can often be
emotionally cold compared to the warmth that oozes from Kate's records.
Just thought it was a shame that everyone lands on the same planet in
Zappa's Universe.
