About the contradiction, it wasn't intentional that it came across that way.
Now generally the 11+ was scrapped in 1970, and the schools in your area were
an obvious exception.It is known that Kate attended a private preparatory
school before St Joseph's.I then assumed as the 11+ was scrapped in 1970,the
grammar school became either Comprehensive or Private,I thought it was likely
to be private.Hence the reason for saying it was private.Though what happened
in your case may apply here as well, it would have depended on the local
council,because Government funding was removed in 1970.That is why the majority
of grammar schools had to change.The reason why the 11+ was scrapped almost
universally in 1970, was because Edward Heath wanted to a see one universal
school system in the UK.Coventry is one of the larger cities, the 1970
ruling did not apply to Coventry alone, it was nationwide.In reality Geoff's
case was the exception rather than the rule.
