Summary: _Legend_ by Clannad

I've never heard _Magical Ring_, but I own _Legend_ and have the following to say: It's a TV music album, essentially, but one where the band has more room to stretch than one might expect. Many of the pieces are atmospheric, with little or no words: they evocatively paint a picture of the dark forests of Medieval England. Because of the relative lack of strong vocal parts (a Clannad trademark), Maire Ni Bhraionain fans may miss her singing; but the blend of traditional instruments, orchestral hints, and synthesis is quite impressive. Maire does get to growl meaningfully on a couple of tracks ("Ancient Forest" and "Herne" come to mind) but there's very little of the high, sweet harmonies one hears on _Macalla_ here: they'd get in the way. Altogether a nice listen. -- metlay METLAY@PITTVMS.BITNET or metlay@vms.cis.pittsburgh.edu Xpander Users Group: send SASE to P.O.Box 81175, Pgh PA 15217-0675 for info.
