Something I discovered about this song lately which I thought interesting... Well y'know, since I bought _Black Sea_ in high school, I've always interpreted it as sort of XTC's 10-years-later answer to songs like "Gimme Shelter" and "Won't Get Fooled Again", i.e. disillusionment following yet another youth-led attempt to change society perverted and commercialized by corporate interests. Turns out it was also the name of a book by Alan Sillitoe, one of the "angry young men" writers of late 50s Britain (_The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner_, _Saturday Night and Sunday Morning_). The books of this era seem to have provided titles for quite a few songs in the past few years... allyn
