I have never been to a LIVE residents show (gee, come to think of it, I wonder when they'll be in LA next...) but if you listen to the HELL! CD (a compilation album) you can hear 60 minutes of their gloomy side, and some of the songs are very similar stylistically to both severed heads and skinny puppy. In fact, the first time I heard these bands, I thought to myself `Gee, you know... that sounds sort of like the residents on _Hell!_' It seems kind of strange that they played an entire concert full of this kind of music, but perhaps they are just experimenting. -Sho
