   Some of the following is conjecture:

   IMO, it's an unavoidable consequence of having a spam-free group. All 
posts are manually moderated. As no one is getting *paid* to moderate, 
sometimes the articles pile before the moderator gets a chance to approve 
and post them. Back in the pre-Spam days of the Net, the list was on
autopilot. Due to an infestation of sleezeballs on the Net, that simply 
isn't possible anymore. 

   If there were any actual Kate *news*, delay would be annoying. But
a small delay (less than the standard News posting delay of 5 years ago)
is a reasonable price for one of the *only* spam-free newsgroups. I'd
rather have one clean digest every 3 days than 3 spam-filled ones a
day.
