You've probably had thousands of answers to this one... Yup, Kate is British/english but draws heavily on her irish roots (through her mother, who was irish). Folk music was always a strong influence on the household, and naturally enough Kate absorbed a strong empathy for irish folk. Her two older brothers were also strong musical influences, and were also into irish folk. I suppose Kate is pretty english, but I can see a parallel in the way that english, more than any other language, draws on and absorbs influences from all over the world. See Kate's aborted emmigration to Australia in The Dreaming, or the influences of Gurdjieffian thought on her early lyrics. ---------- From: John M Shea To: Love-Hounds@gryphon.com Subject: An Irish Bush... Date: 24 February 1997 04:33 This is my second stupid question of the year, but as you were all so gracious last time... I have always assumed that Kate Bush was British. Am I just ignorant? I have picked up a copy of "Common Ground", a collection of modern Irish signers, and she is one of the singers. While I do notice an Irish slant in some of her music, most noticable, the "Jig of Life", I associate her with England's music. While I am a die-hard fan of her music, I am not well-versed in her personal life, and would appricate it if you could fill me in. thanx john shea4@gort.canisius.edu
