The same "crack", or break, in the first syllable of "Cathy"
is found in a tape of the Hippodrome concert, 9 April '79, 
and also in that of the Amsterdam Carre Theatre performance,
29 April, 1979.  These are the only two performances IED
has at his disposal just now, but both offer perfect examples
of the same sound that has been so maligned of late in 
the "New Vocal" version.  So whether one likes the sound
Kate makes there or not, IED can only repeat: it is not
a "flaw", unless you deem Kate's aesthetic sense for her
own music to have less validity than your own.
