I find that the magic number is 3:  
 
The first time you listen to an album, it's like formatting a computer
disk, you're getting your brain ready.   
 
The second time, you pick up some of the riffs, and parts of the songs
catch your attention. 
 
The third time, you actually recognize the songs and can determine whether
it's worth listening to again (and again and again)!
