About this "Hello Earth"/"Columbia" thing

If anybody has access to any sort of sound editing software/hardware, 
surely they could edit out any surface noise/music and hear exactly what 
is being said, just to be precise. Or, if you can afford the cost of two 
stamps and a couple of envelopes, WRITE TO KBC! Surely they'll be able to 
find out. Just for the record, I'm undecided (that way I can (hopefully) 
stay neutral in this argument - apart from this comment, of course).
