There is NO REASON to assume that "Dan" is a member of the shuttle crew!  In
fact, I am STRONGLY convinced that Dan is the groundcrew member that is
tracking the shuttle's speed; the "Roger that, Dan" sounds like >IT< is coming
from the shuttle (Dan's voice is much clearer), meaning Dan is ON THE GROUND!

I don't understand why Mike, with an address of
"gallamw@mollybloom.msfc.nasa.gov", doesn't see this.

Oh, by the way... It's "Columbia now at...".
