"Blows" is a great album, sort of the last gasp of hippie optimism that something could be done, but also the admission that it was turning to fantasy. "Blows" was not considered by many to be the beginning of what became the Starship as it was actually sort of a calvalcade of the SanFran sound, (Garcia, Crosby, etc.) with the Airplane at the center. The Airplane did go one, but they didn't return to real mainstream until Bailin reformed some members under the later Starship. "Blows" was in many ways, the best effort of the period for capturing the spirit of what went on. I've always wanted to do it as a live rock opera with a band. T'would be nostalgia now, but I used to do "Can You See the Stars Tonight" in my solo sets years ago. cheers, len
