As I understand, there is no need to disconnect LoveHounds from rec.music.gaffa in order to stop outsiders from posting. Our dear pseudo-moderator is perhaps the one who should answer such a question. What I offer as an idea, is that we create a kill-file that looks into the header, and checks the 'To: ' line. If the line contains more newsgroups than rec.music.gaffa, the chance is high that it's a cross-posted spam, and it gets promptly killed. Drawbacks are two major ones: 1. It will not stop spams directed only at gaffa, like that grocery spam. 2. It will promptly kill non-spams like ecto cross-postings. If nothing else, just a kill-file to kill all those f***ng magazine- spams. > ...Personally, I don't think it >is worth it to be on a list that's gated to a newsgroup that gets spammed >several times a day, when pretty much everyone who reads the newsgroup could >subscribe to the digest/mailing list without much trouble at all. If it meant >no more spams, I think it would be worth the sacrifice a few of us would have >to make. The problem with that suggestion is that there will be far less people to discover that an Internet fanclub dedicated to Kate Bush actually exists. Curious newcommers checks out the list of newsgroups rec.music.* and wonder: 'What's that gaffa thing?' and reads it. Quickly he/she will realise that it's a Kate Bush club, and then subscribe. A WWW-page will be far less visible. What other means are there to let people know about LoveHounds? I personally think that such a sacrifice would be too great. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music is like vintage wine. It keeps getting better over the years, if those who made it knew how to make it right...
