> Nope, no tape here either. Odd, isn't it? The "principle meaning of the word" and she hasn't bothered to mention it in the vast majority of the interviews? < Is this some kind of joke, Chris? Surely you don't *still* fail so utterly to understand Doug's point? The point (as Kate's replies make eminently clear) is that the WORD "gaffa" refers to "gaffer tape", and that the SONG is about purgatory, laziness, etc. There was no "joke" (IED notices that you now call it a joke rather than a lie, which shows that you have at least reconsidered one of your earlier rash positions) in Kate's response about the meaning of the word "gaffa", only a simple explanation of the meaning of the word. She is just as straightforward in replying to questions about the *themes* which the song touches on. Can you really still fail so completely to grasp this elementary distinction -- the difference between a "signifier" and its larger, metaphorical meaning? There is absolutely no contradiction between Doug's point and anything Kate said in the quotations you offered us from Ron's database. -- Andrew Marvick (IED)
