im not sure who it was (sorry . . . . i have a terrible mail-reader that makes editing old posts a real chore) that said constellation of the heart sounded prince-esque. i dont really agree, except insofar as prince is quite all-encompassing in his mastery of various rock, funk and pop sounds. the percussion/beat/etc are pure disco and, as Details magazine pointed out, they wouldnt have sounded out of place on a Chic record. of course, the mini-opera played out in the lyrics quickly leaves the rhythm track behind, but that is neither here nor there. prince was undeniably part of 'act of contrition' on the madonna album like a prayer. they dueted on 'love song' and there is a joke track at albums end that is quite funny and quite psychadelic, with production credited to 'the powers that be.' i dont think it is unlikely that prince had a hand with, say, rubberband girl, but 'constellation of the heart' doesnt smack of His Purpleness to me. Besides, i doubt kate would be the type to let somebody else shape a huge amount of her album. the lyrics to CotH mark it as something more introspective and important to her, while 'why should i love you' and 'rubberband girl' both seem more fun to me and more disposable, for want of a better word. personally i love 'why should i love you' . . . . but i agree YWA would have made an ideal replacement of EtM! brian
