The Xmas issues of the British pop rags are out and they have their choices of albums and singles of the year. In Malady Mawker Kate does not get a look in in either chart. Their best album is Tindersticks by the band of the same name (who?). Bjork's Debut is at number 6. In No Music Express Kate fares a little better featuring at No. 45 with The Red Shoes - one higher than the Cocteau Twins. NME have Debut at number one. Of TRS they say: "An LP so comprehensively downcast it ought to be accomapnied by a sick note. Kate responds to sad personal events by brooding on the Old Testament, getting mystical, playing some of the bleakest music of her life and concluding that "life is sad". At worst, it sounds like Kate flailing for inspiration, but when the blues really burn, she'll break your heart." Have they been listening to the right album? How can they describe music like Rubberband Girl, Eat the Music and The Red Shoes as bleak - it is hard to stop dancing to them! Happy Christmas to all Lovehounds.
