thanks to the kindness of dave steiner (gaffa luker and record fiend extrordinaire), a copy of _the red shoes_ plopped into the hands of greg bossert, jessica dembski and myself yesterday afternoon. don't ask about the means of acquisition - i don't know. initial impressions after a few listens are varied. a few songs are quite nice (song of solomon, lily, the red shoes, big stripey lie); a few songs are quite ignorable (constellation of the heart, you're the one, why should i love you?); the balance are nice but somewhat unremarkable. i like it less than the sensual world on first listen but not out of any complaint that "this is not the KaTe i know and love." my prime complaint is that many of the songs here are not uniquely KaTe. *any* popster could have recorded the ignorable songs. the unremarkable songs are distinctly hers, but still, they don't strike me as stellar by any means. then again, the middle three songs are really nice. shrug. _O_ woj@remus.rutgers.edu /\ co-ed naked usenet |< fegmaniax-request@gnu.ai.mit.edu \/ virtually everybody's doing it
