RE: Song of Songs . . . Much scholarship on this subject, especially in recent years as women become more prominent in biblical and early middle eastern scholarship. Some experts believe Song is a pre- or early- Judaic wedding song apparetnly patterned after similar songs in Egyptian and other local cultures. The theory has been presented that this piece was written by a woman or women, since it has a very different tone than the rest of the works from the same period, which tend to be "public" documents.
