KATE'S GRANDMA....?

I just happened to notice in my Russkiy Slovar the other day that "BABOOSHKA"
  is Russian for "GRANDMOTHER".  Is this common knowledge?

Do many people sing about their Grannies in such a way? (Referring especially
  to the Film Clip).
