I pulled out my LP copy of Tori's first album (_Y Kant Tori Read_) and
made a dub of it (Melissa, it's for you and Richard, send me your
address and I'll get it in the mail to you) and while I was writing
down the song titles, I started carefully reading the liner notes (and
there are a *lot* of them!) I noticed, and triple-checked to make sure,
that her last name is *nowhere* on the album. Nowhere! How very strange!

The difference between the 2 albums is *so* startling that now I'm
beginning to doubt that they're the same person! Can someone verify
for me that Tori's first album was indeed called _Y Kant Tori Read_?

There certainly are similarities of the voice, but that means nothing.
(In a recent thread on Ecto about female singers who "sound" the same,
I remarked that Heidi Berry sounds just like the lead singer of All
About Eve.)

The "Heavy Metal Death Bitch Goddess" cover is certainly no way to
tell. (btw, if that sounds as if I'm putting Tori down, believe me,
it's not intended to. I call the cover of Kate's Mini-LP, where
she's wearing the outfit from Babooshka, the same thing.

Enquiring, and confused, minds want to make sure before I mail this
off. I'd feel pretty darn silly if I sent it to R&M and it turned
out to not even be Tori Amos.

btw, it's Altantic 81845-1, released in 1988. Song titles are:
The Big Picture, Cool On Your Island, Fayth, Fire On the Side,
Pirates, Floating City, Heart Attack at 23, On the Boundary,
You Go to My Head and Etienne Trilogy.

ps, Melissa, of *course* I was joking.
