as a lurker (so far) and a new recipient of the mailing list, i'd like to
throw in my two cents' worth on the debate of what should be in this
forum. the idea of "censoring" people who aren't serious enough, or
whatever, is extremely unnerving. on most forums (fori?) i have participated
in, the line is drawn only when one member personally attacks another.
i think this is a good criterion. otherwise, let the discussion flow
freely.
in any case, if another "restricted" list is set up, how are you going to
make sure people "qualify" to get on it? give them a quiz to see which
of the seven levels of fandom they fit into? make them sign a promise not
to insult kate bush? the practicalities are overwhelming. let the sysops
weed out the personal attacks, and let the conversation flow.
