This is mainly because everything in the newsgroup gets posted from
one site.  If r.m.gaffa were running as a normal newsgroup with only
the mailing list stuff gatewayed the folks on the mailing list might 
lose posts from the newsgroup and people on the newsgroup might lose 
stuff from the mailing list but complete outages on newsgroup would be
much less common.

At least no systems have gone berserk and flooded gaffa with repeat
posts lately.
