My best experience has been with the Compact Disc Warehouse (Sunnyvale) and
Circular Motions (Cupertino).  CDW seems to have a larger inventory and is
faster to get new releases.  Another place worth looking is Streetlight
Records (San Jose)... but I haven't been there in about a year.  If you're
willing to make the trek up into San Francisco, theres a lot of places to look,
but I'm not very well informed on them.
I've got a list someone posted somewhere of record and CD stores in the Bay
area if you're interested.
