Subject: Re: New Propaganda
The new album sounds little to nothing like A SECRET WISH, with a handful of small exceptions. The vocals are more "poppy" (about the only direction they could go without Claudia Brucken, short of signing up Diamanda Galas :-) and the sound is a lot smaller than it was with Horn/Lipson. They've moved in the direction of Virgin's house dancemusic style, if Virgin can be said to have one (cf. Sandra, Mike Oldfield's recent stuff). I knew all that going in, and wasn't surprised by it. Knowing that 1234 wasn't going to be ANOTHER SECRET WISH, I decided to still give it a shot and enjoyed it a lot. They no longer have the ZTT Sound but the sound that replaced it is still a good one. Summary: more streamlined, less complex, less "threatening". If the clunky, evil Big Sound of the first album was what you liked about the band, you're in for some disappointment.
