Subject: Re: The new Laurie Anderson?
G. T. Samson: > ....but does anyone have any comments on the new Laurie Anderson? Hmmm...let's see. The first thing that I noticed is that our beloved experimentalist was less experimental than she has been. The music is in fact musical. The second thing I noticed is that she incorporated more world music sounds into the production. There is still the characteristic sound of any Laurie release, but there is also a more "ethnic" feel to it that really adds to the album. It sounds like somebody else, but I can't really put my finger on who. Some of the featured artists include Bobby McFerrin on vocals, Tony Levin on stick, Anton Fier on drums and a guy named Bakthisti someething or other on fretless bass who sounds ALOT like Mick Karn or John Giblin. Very nice style. My reaction is very favoarable. In fact, it has replaced _The_Sensual_ World_ as my walking around campus tape (sacriledge!!!!!). > I'm having trouble commenting on it right now because I > first heard the material on it live, at BAM, and I had too > good a time to look at it with any detachment...
