Subject: Hidden lyrics, etc.
The "joy of discovery" bit sounds like yet another rationalization, but sometimes it's true. It doesn't even necessarily matter HOW you discover it; recall the posting in this mailing list of the semi-hidden lyrical connection between the beginning and the end of Pink Floyd's "The Wall." Neat. Or, more to the point, the incremental discoveries made here of KB's hidden lyrics. Then again, the Piltdown man still speaks jibberish :-) Steve Bloch says "Jane Siberry seems very concerned that people understand Her lyrics, and Her albums generally contain very complete lyrics sheets, sometimes in parallel columns to indicate multitracking." Her parallel lyrics really need to be seen in print! I, for one, would never get them otherwise. Sometimes it works the other way: sometimes lyrics are hidden in that they appear in the printed sheet but not in the recording. Examples include Yaz(Yazoo)'s "Ode to Boy," and some of Genesis' middle stuff. There's as much joy of discovery there as the other way 'round, perhaps more. Once you know it, you get to hear the missing lyrics in your mind whenever you hear the music. -mm- --- Mark E. Mallett Zinn Computer Co/ PO Box 4188/ Manchester NH/ 03103 Bus.
