Summary: Fairlight collapse confirmed
In article <1092@blblbl.UUCP> Love-Hounds@GAFFA.MIT.EDU writes: >Really-From: henrik@blblbl.UUCP (Larry DeLuca) > >Apparently Fairlight Instruments, makers of the Fairlight CMI (a truly >phenomenal music workstation, most recent incarnation the Series III) >have gone out of business as of about 2 weeks ago. Yes it's true, Fairlight has collapsed. Their main investor reneged on a refinancing deal and they were wound up by their bank. There have been a couple of articles in Australian news groups which I read with interest. These gave a basic history of Fairlight and interpretations of why it failed, as seen by ex R & D staff. The consensus seems to be that bad management and market targeting were to blame. The latest news is that the founders of Fairlight have bought all of the intellectual property rights and some of the company's equipment back from the liquidators, and intend to start again. I still have the news articles I mentioned, and I can mail them to anyone who wants them. I will not re-post them unless there is a *lot* of interest, as together they are quite large. On a different note, I vaguely recall hearing that Babooshka is a figure from Russian mythology. Can anyone confirm or deny this, and supply a little more information ? Regards, Ken
