This new outing from Vini Reilly and Co. is really
outstanding. Plenty of pizzicato viola, DMX, and echo-y Les Paul, all
signature work of Durutti Column's earlier efforts. However, this CD
features somewhat stronger song-form and soloing as well as very good
production. The CD features a couple of extra songs which are among
the best on the CD, so definitely purchase the CD if you have a CD
player.

Approximately half of the CD is composed of instrumentals
which defy description. Perhaps the best way to approximate such a
group of tunes is to describe them as "modern chambre music crossbred
with pop." The rest of the CD features vocal work and these items
definitely tend more toward the pop side, but with modal structures
and instrumentation which cast the music more firmly into the
classical tradition.

"The Guitar and Other Machines" has been released domestically
on Virgin's new "adventurous" sublabel, Venture Recordings. The CD
lists for a mere $12.99 which makes it the cheapest Durutti Column CD
around here by a long seven bucks.

If you enjoy the Durutti Column, purchase this recording. If
you enjoy "modern instrumental music" purchase this recording. If you
enjoy Poison, go away. (just kidding - what I meant to say was
"purchase this recording.")

	Rob
