In article <8706090027.AA21497@EDDIE.MIT.EDU> you write: >Can any Love-Hounders in the Rochester NY or Toronto area recommend >good record stores out there. I'm going to Rochester to visit a friend I went to school in Roch. and whenever I'm in the area I try to stop into the Record Archive. It's a yellow and red house on Rt. 15 (Jefferson Ave.?) close to the U. of R. Last time I was there the standard album price was STILL $6.49-$6.99. They have quite a large selection of out-of-print albums (and used ones) in the back room. Classical, jazz, new age, etc. are on the top floor. It's not a big place compared to some others, but I can almost always find what I'm looking for. Beware: parking is tough to come by in their lot, but there's a supermarket across the street with the plenty of parking (Wegman's - you might want to check out the Wegman's behind Marketplace Mall off Rt. 15 towards the thruway. It's actually a big tourist attraction for the uninitiated.) A rather different record store is House of Guitars in Irondaquoit (sp?). It's big, but good luck finding anything - the place is a mess. It's on Titus Ave., and it's quite a ways north of the Archive. I've found some decent things at Fantasy Records in a small plaza in Pittsford across from the Pittsford Mall (Monroe Ave. = Rt. 31?), but it doesn't exactly stand out. If you're curious about what kind of music comes out of Rochester, you might want to check the compilation or local bins for an album from Jargon records on the Midnight label called Bone in Rochester. Strangely enough, the two bands on there that international distribution are rather poorly represented on this vinyl. If you do happen to pick it up, let me know what you think. I'm curious. Toronto - the only thing I know of is Sam the Record Man on Yonge St. It's really a nice city. I wish I was going there. Good Luck!
