Well, there must be a new Sonic Youth album, 'cause Melody Maker just reviewed it. It's called "Sister". Excerpts from the review: "Mostly the pleasure in Sonic Youth is a kind of entranced suspension; what they're making now is *pop gone wrong*. They've taken the Byrds and Jefferson Airplane and forged a kind of industrial raga rock, taken the butterflies in the heart of janglepop and attached rusty razor blades to their wings." "Sonic Youth harass, extort their guitars, make them squeal like neglected kettles, or swarm like locusts blotting out the sky. They relocate the classic shapes of rock'n'roll (glissandos of slide guitar, a fog of wah-wah) into an ultramodern context. In the absence of melody, what you listen to is the structure, the almost gymnastic movement in time and space of blocks of noise, the alteration of different densitites, forces, torques." "The lyrical concerns are as laughably morbid as ever, but Sonic Youth have located a strange new rapture somewhere in between the shiver and the shudder. They will get under your skin." [Let it be known that I disagree strongly with that jab at the lyrics.] Sounds good to me. Out Friday in the US, according to a guy at Rhino. On SST of course. This is a DEFINITE buy-or-die scene, folks. Keep Rockin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "If you laid all of Bon Jovi's tallywackers end to end, they'd be only two inches long! And that's including the roadies!" --Mojo Nixon '86 ==O==- <-(kazoo) -- pEtEr AlfkE I'm going to have to torture you now, @ but I want you to know cSVAx it isn't personal. .cAlTEch.EDU
