Subject: i'm sorry if i beg to differ
but Elvis Costello is "mainstream" rock and so is Pete Gabbyreal and even, yes, after "running up dat hill", kate bush. come on... mr "flame on" - they get "mainstream" mersh play - they get on mtv - they are "mainstream" rock. AND there's nothing totally wrong with that. What's so bad about it? It's nice to see some mainstream artists who market themselves on their music rather than conformity to a style (this is found in non-mainstream also) or primarily looks. Sorry I got you so teed off (and I'm sure some people are going to point out how different I sound with the above paragraph than things i have written in the past... still, i try as a rule to avoid mainstream rock because i've gotten burnt on it in the past with overrpriced concert tickets and records, etc as well as egotistical attitudes propagated by both the fans and the artists...). Oh well, it's so nice to get my two cents ... --- jim hofmann@nrl-css
