Subject: DEPECHE MODE
RE: Depeche Mode Personally, I thought that the 'Highland Mix' of "Stripped" was the best thing the band has done in years... It finally broke away somewhat from the mold which all of their songs have struck me as falling into since somewhere around "Construction Time Again". I'd say it's closest cousin (the highland mix, that is) would be some of Vangelis's music for Blade Runner. I haven't heard the 7" version though, which is what Joe (Turner) was talking about... As to the new album, I have yet to hear anything from it that would entice me to buy it. There was a time when I would blindly buy anything the band put out (I have all of their previous albums, and once had a ton of their singles), but lately all of the new stuff has started to sound the same to me. I was especially dissapointed by 'Shake The Disease' and "It's Called A Heart" - some of the most hackneyed lyrics I've heard in ages! Anybody else staring to feel the same way about them? -Peter Lee Fuligin%umass.bitnet@wiscvm.arpa
