New York, London, Paris, Munich, everybody's talkin' 'bout Pop Music!

I completely agree. With me right now I have "The Dreaming", Joy
Division's "Unknown Pleasures", "Psychocandy", a Gabriel bootleg
AND....

..."Rio" and "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" by DURAN DURAN!!

Go ahead and retch, slap me upside the head, call me a cretin. I
happen to think that DD have as much musical integrity as anyone you
can name, even Robyn Hitchcock (watch people flame me to a crisp for
THAT one!). Face it, folks; as much as you'd hate to admit it, if DD
hadn't gotten all that publicity and media hype from places like MTV,
we'd ALL be out buying their 12"s and albums JUST LIKE ANY OTHER
ALTERNATIVE ARTIST. There is a fine line between "pop" and
"alternative", and most of the time it's a very blurry line. I hated
U2 with a passion because they were "popular" and "everybody" was
listening to them. Then I actually sat down and listened to some of
their stuff, and liked it. Same for Bruce Springsteen! Same for Duran
Duran!

I happen to think I have pretty eclectic tastes in music, but that won't
stop me from going out and buying a copy of The Hooters' "Nervous Night"
just because it's "popular"... and it won't stop me from saying I'd
rather listen to Prince than the Butthole Surfers any day.

Save your parity bits for big cash prizes!
