Subject: Re: Close-minded DJs at parties (FLAME)
Well, for good music last night, I stayed at home. Americans have absolutely lousy taste in music, for the most part (the same can be said for such things as automobiles, food, architecture, literature, but I digress). My dear sister-in-law is a case in point. She typically listens to top 40 nonsense in the Bay Area - a lot of it. I happened to put on Joe Jackson's Night and Day. She thought it was absolute dreck until the *hit* came on (please don't flame me for liking Joe Jackson - I think he's done some absolutely stunning stuff). I firmly believe that this is typical of most Americans' musical tastes and experience - if it ain't on popular radio, it ain't any good. Actually, the lack of taste works in the favor of people who prefer non- mainstream music: tickets for performances are available even to us working stiffs. And I, for one, sure like it that way... What do other people think about this topic? I'd sure like to hear a number of viewpoints. Bob -------
