...Very interesting--never really thought about it, although I can tell
you that, when I saw the Hammersmith video in 1986, that was the first
time I had noticed anyone using one in such a performance (realize, of
course, that Hammersmith video was already about 7 years old when I saw
it.) But I just thought, well, heck, they've probably been using them
for many years and I've just been out of it, right?

But maybe not.
