Subject: Maxwell raises a question
To: <love-hounds@gryphon.com>
I videotaped the Maxwell Unplugged show on MTV last week (while I was out), then played it a few times. Got a little tired of watching his eyes and fingers dribbling up and down with the notes, and realized about all I liked were his cover of TWW and his closing song/antics. Then played Maxwell and KaTe's TWW back-to-back a few times. KaTe still wins of course, but Maxwell IS good on that one. The question I have (and this comes from someone with no musical training or talent (the only musical instrument I play is the stereo)), is, on TWW (and only considering TWW), would you call Maxwell's voice a falsetto or a countertenor? Please, no need to dredge up castrati here. Thanks, .
