Time to lie about and read, eh? Try on some of these which I've more-or-less recently enjoyed... Einstein's Dreams; Alan Lightman. A surreal little universe that explores relativity in a way that somehow reminds me of Kurt Vonnegut. The Complete Poems; Anne Sexton. Heavy duty stuff; includes a lot of previously unpublished poems. If you haven't read her before, do it now. Book of Dreams; Jack Kerouac. Notebook-style dream log kind of thing written during and largely turned into On The Road, The Subterraneans, and The Dharma Bums. And I thought I had some weird dreams. Children of the Mind; Orson Scott Card. The fourth (and final?) installment in what used to be the Ender Trilogy. Clears up a lot of questions left hanging after the first three books, but it probably won't do a lot of good to read it if you haven't read the first three. Orientations; Pierre Boulez. Translations of lectures given here and there (mostly at Darmstadt) during the 60s, as well as some new and revised articles from various publications. Boulez expounds his views and theories on compostion, structure, analysis, life, the universe, and nearly everything. (For those who don't know, Boulez is a composer, conductor, and director of IRCAM in Paris.) m. -- Michael Rees <mrees@pppmail.appliedtheory.com> Composer &c. Perfectionism is self-abuse of the highest order.
