My own guess is that *Under The > Ivy* is about secret oppositions to the Third Reich. That's an interesting interpretation. Kate hasn't given much comments about that song. Here's another part from the CFNY phone-in interview: Place: CFNY radio station, Toronto Time: December 13th, "Modern Rock Live" Host: Tom Calder[?] Guest: Kate Bush Phone Caller: Janet from Buffalo, New York J: I've listened to you and your music, a, about ten years now, and I was particularly moved by the song Under The Ivy, and it's not very readily available here in the States. I was wondering what was your inspiration for the writing of that song? K: Well, that's quite a while ago now, that song, and I think it was a B-side on a single of Hounds Of Love or something... <short pause> <almost giggling:> I don't really remember what the inspiration was, to be honest, I wrote it so long ago... T: And you don't listen to things that you normally do... [?? not sure] K: That's right, I don't, so, I'm sorry... T: It'll be a mystery... K: <laughs> something to do with ivy I suppose T: and maybe being under it? K: _possibly_ T: OK, here we go. ciao, Rolf
