TAFKAP

I submit that one of the reasons TAFKAP admires Kate so much is that she did
years ago what he has only now been able to do. When she was in conflict
with EMI she built her own studio, took control of rights to her work, told
them she'd be back when she was darned good and ready, and went home to
compose. She refused to be treated the way record companies treat those
they can make money from (if you heard how they treat Nusrat and his
accompanists you'd be appalled!)

TAFKAP was not so fortunate as to be able to work out such an arrangement.
Of course he admires Kate; besides being God (really, she is) she set her
career up to give herself maximum privacy and creative freedom. This surely
looked wonderful to someone who felt as exploited as he did. But while most
of us will never have the opportunity to work with someone we look up to, he
did.

I'm looking forward to another little bit of Kate's work; a sort of hors
d'ourvres before the main course of her next album! Perhaps we should thank
TAFKAP for inviting her on board . . . otherwise we might have NOTHING until
then.
