   The theory is that the noise is Kate shutting off a second reel-to-reel
recorder. At the time, most recorders had mechanical controls rather
than electro-mechanical ones, usually one large lever to switch from
play to stop. She recorded either the piano or vocal first on one
tape recorder and then either sang or played along. If the recorders
were sitting on the piano lid, or just on top of the piano as she only
had an upright at the time,
