I have to disagree. Kate is intelligent enough and artistic 
enough to have layered several meanings into TNW -- and even 
several storylines. Your argument may use the most basic 
principle of logic 101 -- but if the author *intended* diverse 
interpretations of the work, it's a moot point.

 If Kate would only sit down with us and say

Egad! Thank God she hasn't! I've really enjoyed hearing all the 
different interpretations of TNW, and, even if many (or all) of 
them are not what Kate intended, most have been interesting and 
eye-opening. What's so great about TNW and all of Kate's work 
for that matter is that it inspires great discussions and 
different interpretations.
