Kate is intelligent enough and artistic enough to have layered several meanings into TNW -- and even several storylines. Your argument may use the most basic principle of logic 101 -- but if the author *intended* diverse interpretations of the work, it's a moot point. If Kate would only sit down with us and say > word-for-word what she meant when she wrote The Ninth Wave, it would sure > save us a lot of problems! > Egad! Thank God she hasn't! I've really enjoyed hearing all the different interpretations of TNW, and, even if many (or all) of them are not what Kate intended, most have been interesting and eye-opening. What's so great about TNW and all of Kate's work for that matter is that it inspires great discussions and different interpretations. Robb
