My latest book club catalogue contained a flyer advertising some new CD pressings - one of them being (new Kate?!? - NO!!!) Delius: Sea Drift, Songs of Farewell, and Songs of Sunset. If nothing else, the man was rather good with song titles - the track listing for Songs of Sunset possessing the peculiar beauties of poetry: "A song of the setting sun; Cease smiling, Dear! a little while be sad; Pale amber sunlight falls; Exceeding sorrow consumeth my sad heart; By the waters of separation; See how the trees and the osiers lithe; I was not sorrowful, I could not weep; They are not long, the weeping and the laughter" The thrill and the hurting... TSB P.S. The CD cover? A wave rolling onto the shore, the white horses represented by a line of real, galloping white horses. Yes, white horses both literal and littoral. Ain't life grand?
