IBM, EMI Music Publishing sign music database deal London, June 28 . . . to make EMI's library of recorded music available through an online digital database. The deal will allow TV, film, advert makers who want to buy the rights to a piece of music to select from EMI's library of 300 hours of music. Under the arrangement licenses can be bought and music can be downloaded directly by computer. (I believe they mean rights to use music for a specific project only, such as a commercial or a soundtrack, not ownership rights. -- K) EMI hopes to offer its entire music catalog, including material from performers such as Rolling Stone and the Beatles. << fluff deleted>> IBM is worning on the distribution of the library via the WWW on the internet. The library already carries film, text, art and manuscripts from a variety of sources including the Vatican library, the Indiana School of Music, and the new Hollywood multimedia company, Dreamworks. ____________________ Pulled this from the newswires yesterday.
