I agree with Mike Gallaher, that the person in the story is female.
I have always thought so, from the moment I realised The Ninth Wave
was a story. It has something in it that I can't pinpoint, but all the
lyrics, in the way it is given, I get the impression that it's supposed
to be a she. And the title of Waking The Witch just confirms my position,
not to mention the lyrics of it.
The accuser in the song poses threatingly, and I can't think of another
situation in which he will be more intimidating than if the accused was
an insecure young lady in, shall we say the late teens?
I may be wrong about her age, but then, I have not scrutinised the lyrics.
I just tend to imbibe the whole spirit of the story, or blow my brains
out by playing Waking The Witch in my 400 Watts car stereo
(now I realise why I'm having trouble keeping my car _on_ the road :-)
Well that's how I see it anyway.
